Googly is the most adventurous member of the Caravan. Googly comes from the southern part of India. He is very curious and often gets into trouble because he is always getting into things he shouldn’t. Googly’s parents often ask him why he is so curious.
“Because there are so many great things to learn about,” Googly says. One of the things Googly most likes to learn about is the truth of Jesus Christ. Googly’s family has always been very religious. Before becoming Christians, Googly’s family followed tribal practices. They would worship many different spirits out of fear that if they didn’t worship them, the spirits would cause bad things to happen to their family. They didn’t know that there is one true God who has power over all of creation. Now Googly and his family know the truth.
Googly likes to learn about God’s many creations and what they can teach him about God. Googly has found many things in nature that teach about the truths of God. Googly always liked to climb up high in the trees and pick coconuts and drink the sweet coconut milk and eat the white flesh. Now, when Googly drinks the coconut milk he remembers the Lord’s Supper and that Jesus said the juice was a symbol of His blood. When he eats the pure, white meat of the coconut, he remembers the purity of Jesus’ body as He sacrificed it for us.
South India
The southern part of India is a triangular-shaped peninsula with the Arabian Sea to the west and the Bay of Bengal on the east. The land is rocky with two mountain ranges in the north. The people of South India come from a Dravidian background and differ ethnically and culturally from North Indians.
Monkey
Old World monkeys are found in South Asia and most are tree dwellers. A few, however, such as baboons and some macaques, are ground dwellers. Old World monkeys, sometimes called true monkeys, are more closely related to apes than they are to New World monkeys.
Tribals/Animists
Tribal beliefs, also known as animism, are based on the belief that there is a spiritual realm of which humans are only a small part. Tribals and animists believe everything possesses a soul that is distinct and even independent of its physical form. They believe that they have to keep these spirits happy so that the spirits don’t cause bad things to happen to them. They do not recognize that there is one God who has power over the spiritual realm.
