THE CAREER MISSIONARY PROGRAM

Career missionaries are the foundation of the missions effort! They make a lifetime investment in cross-cultural evangelism that results in new churches and fosters church-planting movements. Missionaries are people who are, first and always, evangelistic witnesses. Every other activity and function is secondary to sharing the Gospel with a view toward leading individuals to Christ. Career applicants are expected to be called and gifted by God to serve as cross-cultural missionaries; age 24 to 45 at time of appointment; a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident; in good emotional, physical and mental health; trained and involved in personal witnessing; educated and experienced to meet requirements for a particular assignment and an active member of a Southern Baptist church. Career personnel are appointed and serve their first term as apprentice missionaries, learning to communicate and function in their new culture.

THE ASSOCIATE MISSIONARY PROGRAM

Missionary Associates are appointed to serve a four-year term (often renewable). This is a flexible category of service designed for those who are not qualified for career service due to education or age or are interested in serving only four years. Requirements for applicants are similar to those for career missionaries except for duration of service, experience (emphasis is on competency demonstrated through experience) and education (may be less than career qualifications).
