"Jesus used stories when he spoke to the people. In fact, he did not tell them anything without using stories."

Matthew 13:34 (CEV)

Quester Testimonies

When the One Story team came out to work with the G's I think no one knew what to expect. Now, as we move closer and closer to seeing a CPM among the G's, the One Story project has become an integral part of the overall work.

This is a situation where there is no scripture at all in the people's language and all of the believers are "oral learners", so Urdu language books don't benefit them. At the same time the number of believers is growing, and all have received T4T training but need to proceed to the next level of discipleship. There is a sizable gap in the work, which the One Story project filled in perfectly.

Now there is a very well translated set of stories which give a panoramic view of the history of redemption, and the G believers love the finished product. They use the stories for evangelism. First Camel is used to seek out the interested parties in a village. People who respond to Camel are then invited to hear more by listening to some of the One Story stories, and this leads to a presentation of the gospel. The G believers are on their own initiative working at getting all the stories recorded and tapes in the hands of all the believers who live far and wide so that they can all learn all of the stories. There is no doubt in my mind that each of these believers will eventually have all of these stories imprinted in their brains. This is their Bible, and without it a CPM seems unlikely, if not impossible. Now however, in the words of our one "super spreader", "This is our time, the time for this work to spread out and it can't be stopped."

I had been struggling with our main story crafter for a while. She and her family struggle with fear in a mighty way (as do the majority of the K people). Then one day, she told me that she was excited to start college again. I asked her why and she said, ‘Because I can make new friends and I can share the stories with them. That’s my plan.’ All of a sudden, I realized that not only had these stories taught her about God’s Word and that she should be telling people her faith, they also gave her a ‘safer’ way to share her faith with new people. In a place that is torn apart by M militancy, it’s incredibly scary for a believer to share his or her faith with anyone because no one knows who he or she can trust. These stories have changed her life and the way she sees so many things. I believe that through relationships and friendships (the things oral societies are based on), these stories will spread. I am amazed.

It’s amazing how God has impacted me while working on this project. I completed all of the editing on my story sound files and I was looking at all of them in the folder where I save them – there were 47 of them. As I was looking at them, I expected to have a sense of accomplishment… but I didn’t. I was more aware in that instant of the sovereignty of the Lord than I ever have been in my life. We have endured opposition from so many sides, and there I was, looking at this work that I have poured myself into over the last 18 months… only to be reminded that I didn’t do a thing. The Lord did it all in spite of me. He paved the way for us, He crossed language barriers for us, and He communicated His word to these girls who so desperately need it.
