In-The-Know

Join us in falling on our knees...

Prayer is no foreign concept to the people of South Asia... but prayer that makes a difference is. As followers of Christ, we know that He intercedes in prayer for us, and we are expected to do likewise for others. South Asia is filled with hundreds of millions of people who need our intercession. They pour their hearts out to gods who cannot hear or help them. As Christ's ambassadors on earth, it is up to us to intercede for them.

Please join us in falling on our knees to lift up the many needs of this part of the world. Here, we offer many different prayer needs and resources to help you effectively impact South Asia through your prayers.

Pray Today:

Below are some prayer requests that you can join us in lifting up today. you can see more by joining our Prayer Update list or going to the IMB's CompassionNet and searching requests by country for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Maldives.

  • 1.5 Million on the Move   There are over 1.5 million people who are on the move in the Northwest part of Pakistan. They are traveling to safer cities, villages, and other areas by any means they can. “We just left on foot carrying whatever we could in our hands,” said one woman through tears who had just arrived in a refugee camp near a major city in Pakistan. Hundreds of thousands of people have done the same – just fleeing on foot with whatever they can carry. Please pray for relief projects that have already been started by Southern Baptist representatives. Pray that as they meet physical needs, many hearts will be soft and ready to hear the truth of the Good News. Praise God that one family is already asking important questions and have a desire to know more about Christ. Pray that many more families will want to know the true way to peace and truth. Ask God to add many to the Kingdom, one household at a time.

  • Work Continues on Hindu-Friendly Bible.   A group of dedicated Jesus-followers are working to translate the Bible into a Hindu-friendly Hindi version. A number of books have already been completed while many more still remain to be translated. Please pray for focus and accuracy by the translators and that millions throughout India would have access to this Bible, which will be easier for them to understand than any version they have seen before. We know that God’s Word will not return to Him empty (Isaiah 55:11), and we pray that all who read this new Bible would experience new life in Christ.

  • Students Reaching Students in Dhaka.   Pray for a team of nine university students the United States who will be in Dhaka for six weeks this summer. They will be reaching out to national university students, giving sports clinics, performing drama and singing songs of their faith to Muslims, Hindus, and any who will listen. Pray that their message will fall on fertile soil and sprout to yield a harvest of hundreds and thousands. (See Matthew 13).

  • Concerts Share the Songs of Heaven.   Pray for a musician and his manager as they will be traveling around South Asia doing concerts to reach out to university students and Western music fans in July and August. May they make the most of every opportunity to share the hope they have in Christ and to help other believers living and serving in South Asia. Pray for safety in travel and smooth transitions from place to place – as well as good health.

  • Leadership Team Desires God's Unity of Vision.   As the changes in the International Mission Board’s structures begin to be implemented this month, please pray that the newly appointed Affinity of South Asian Peoples leadership team will quickly gel into a body of leaders working in unity of spirit, vision, and passion for God and His kingdom advance in South Asia. Pray, too, for leaders who have shifted focus and moved on to new positions in different parts of the world. Ask God to continue using them as advocates for South Asian peoples, even as they begin new tasks. Pray that our leadership team will listen closely to discern God’s voice and be obedient to whatever He asks of them.

  • Hands On Students Lead Lost to Christ.   Thank you for praying for Hands On students who served in Punjab this spring. The students had a great experience. They were able to share their testimonies and the Gospel with a number of Punjabis. Twelve to fifteen committed their lives to Christ and the Hands On students discipled them using stories from the Bible. Continue to pray for these new believers to grow in their faith. Pray for the other Punjabis who heard the Good News as a result of these Hands On students.
